September is Huntington’s Awareness Month in Australia and this year Huntington’s NSW is hoping to raise funds and more awareness of this disease through Walk 4 Hope which will be a 2K walk around Croudace Bay park on the 16.09.17. This year will be the last year that our mum (Angela Hiscock) will be running it. So we plan to make it our biggest yet!
Unless affected by Huntington’s, which my family and I have been, little is known about this awful disease. Huntington’s Disease is a hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no effective treatment or cure. HD slowly diminishes an individual’s ability to walk, talk and reason. Eventually, every person with HD becomes totally dependent upon others for his or her care. HD profoundly affects the lives of entire families — emotionally, socially and financially.
Huntington’s NSW seeks to improve the quality of life of all people touched by Huntington’s Disease in NSW & ACT by connecting families to a range of quality services and by supporting people affected by Huntington’s Disease to live meaningful and hopeful lives as valued members of the community.
